Barrel Racing

  1. The contestant may choose either the right or left barrel direction for barrel No. 1.

  2. Complete a 360-degree turn, then on to barrel No. 2, this time passing to the right with another 360-degree turn.

  3. At barrel No. 3, the same passage to the right and a 360-degree turn is accomplished.

  4. As soon as the turn is completed around barrel No. 3, the contestant sprints the horse to the start-finish line.

  5. A horse may start either on the right barrel or the left barrel and run the remainder of the pattern accordingly.

  6. Time is started as soon as the horse's nose crosses the start-finish line. The time is stopped when the course is run, and the horse's nose crosses the start-finish line.

  7. The start-finish line shall be the same for all racers, flags on the fence at the eyes mark the start and finish line 

  8. Each barrel should be set at least 15 feet from the arena wall or fence.

  9. Fifty-gallon barrels should be used. 

  10. No rake brakes will be done during the payday 

  11. we will run to a closed gate 

 

Scoring Procedure

  1. Strictly a timed event. The fastest time is the winner, the second fastest time is second, etc.

  2. loss of forward motion, looping back through the start/finish line, going off pattern, going around the wrong side of barrel will result in a no time ​

  3. 5 second penalties will be added for each barrel tipped over
